Professional Instagram
Last year for PPP i rebranded and created a professional instagram for produced work, this was created mostly over my PPP work and myself branding progress but after the summer this account fell inactive. I feel this is heavy due to being uninterested in the people i chose to follow as well as the informal feel to the account. It was more a documentation of me as student rather than an account to show finished pieces which could be used as a online portfolio, therefore again for this year i have made a new account.
This is as after the career talk i had with Intern Magazine, it was made clear that i needed and i wanted to have a way they could contact or view my work in a professional manner. Instagram have a new feature which allows user to send messages to others via their profiles, so this could be a vital way future jobs ect could connect with me.
For this account, i aim to have largely more interactively with my posts but also with other accounts and posts. This will be a way i could connect with the artist for my interview for studio brief 2 as contacting them via this design account sets tone for my work and shows my interest in the subject as well as expressing my personal style in a medium they can directly follow me back or see my work before replying.
A new account will be created yet the branding and post will be previous work as i'm still happy with the branding created last year for my PPP, this is so there is thing available to be post and i still feel the branding from last year fits with my work style/ethic.
aims -
follow lots of artists for inspiration
use it as a way to contact people for brief 2
interact with the social media more
post professional work imagers
use as a way to interact with the art world

PPP2 - STUDIO BRIEF 1 - Tetley 3rd Birthday
Tetley 3rd Birthday
The tetley in leeds is big art studios spaces as well as a art gallery, tonight is its 3rd brithday as its now been open for 3 years to celebrate this there is a party on tonight. Due to the gallery's artistic nature and studios there i'm assuming that this night will be a great chance to meet more creative and network more with the industry. This will be a great chance to meet people from the studios there or to make any connections with the gallery it's self (for future work, for jobs, for studio places).
Issue - this is the same night as the intern magazine launch, since this event starts at the same time 6 as this one runs later till 'late' this will be better to go to after the previous event which ends earlier.Trying to fit in both these events was stressful, a lot of running/getting lost was involved.

Research before
Before going to the one on one and talks but Intern Magazine, researching into the people running the event and people surrounding the event will be done. This is so when at the session i can ask more informed questions which will give off a better impression of myself as well as allow me to get the best out of the session.
career sessions are with alec dudson or editor Hollie Myles or contributing illustrator Joe Boyd

question ideas-
hardship of working two jobs
bar jobs and late night mean not time for anything else?
in manchester/london the best place to do?
should i work for year save up then go live in manchester for year?
or should i another degree in viscom advertising and go a intern whilst doing this?
every had any bad intern ships?
does doing free work make it worse cause people expect it?
how to ask for pay?
Career Talk
My one to one talk was with Hollie the photography edit for the magazine, this was useful as it allowed me to analyse where to live when i finish uni, between manchester and leeds. As she started in manchester but moved to leeds it allowed me to discuss with someone why she did it, it turns out that for Hollie she found that both city have a busy art movement at the moment but she found Manchester is a more closed community so in harder to start off a new comer to this environment. She said that currently leeds has a wider range of places to network and meet people, like the event tonight free places to go to connect with people in the creative industry. We also talked about running two jobs, her self still does this to pay the rent ect as she said the fun work doesn't pay the bills, this is common feedback from artist, but we discussed how my bar experince will help me get a night time bar job i could do aside the main internship i might not get paid or get paid enough for.
We also discussed how to stand out, she said like on legal blonde you have to have your cv ect stand out, have it arty!Have aspects of my cv that will look different from the normal cv they receive, this could be the stock, the print, the text, simple little drawings ect on the work i send that'll give it more flare. This is something i should look into more for PPP and my personal branding.
The main way to connect with people and how to get jobs in this industry she states was through networking and keeping in-touch with people via networks, keep talking to people, keep asking people, go to events ect. This is so people don't forget you, you're contanstly at the top of their mind if any job come available, send out a newsletter every month with work you've done is a great way to do this, rather then just the normal boring email. Also she clearly told me not to be scared of sending emails, everyone is she said and she still is but this need to be done to get jobs, get over this fear or just pretend to.
This session was very very useful as it was a one to one session, i got 15 minutes to ask her anything i wanted to know, any question that related to my work and me rather than just in general questions. Hollie was a lovely open person who seems as happy to help me as anyone, this allowed me to gee information that i've been questioning personally for a while from a working professional in the field. Also the research before allowed me to get more defined answer to the questions i needed, this should be done before any interview/talk i go to in the future:)
Magazine Launch
After the one to one session was the launch of the magazine at the village bookstore, this was a time where professional collected to talk to Alec, Hollie and Joe in a more informal collection. The launch was from 6-9 and there was small talk at 7 from alec, He simply talked for a brief amout about the issues but especially about its ethics and aims, how he things everyone should paid for work and how its daily right robbery. It was nice to go to the magazine launch run by creatives as this shows how people dress at these type of events, how casual creative looks at these meeting, it relaxed current stresses i had about not looking 'professional' enough as everyone at the meeting looks like me. Everyone was dress smart casual but with a creative different look, they had a tattoos piercing ect and none of them where ashamed of these. In this industry dressing in a suit isn't needed but reflecting your creativity is. ARTIST SHOULD GET PAID AND SHOUDL LOOK LIKE CREATIVES

PPP2 - STUDIO BRIEF 1 - Embossing Workshop
Embossing Workshop
Though out second year an aim is the learn how to use and take advantage of the college resources, this is so for 3rd year i can utilize the workshop and software effectively without being held back or having to wait for workshops inductions. This will enchance and open up my 3rd year practise as allowing me to use all the resources, even if i don't use the skills this year it'll mean i can use them for my final year.
One of the skills i'd aim to learn this year was how to foil work, this is last year many people foiled their poster or work which added a more professional, elegant expensive finish to their work yet i've never been able to do this. In my past education i've learnt a range of different printing mediums but have never been able to foil or had the chance therefor this is area i'd like explore incase any brief this year or next fits with the outcome style.
Group embossing and foiling workshop
As i'd been interested in learning how to foil when a place became available in the embossing and foiling workshop this was a chance to learn this, i'd done a large amount of embossing and de-bossing in the past but not at this in uni so learning where the area to this was availbe as well as how to use the different equipment could be useful too. MAIN AIM LEARN HOW TO FOIL.
Workshop-
The workshop was mostly based around embossing and debossing, This was a good recap as i'd not done this process in a year but was also very time comsuming as the foiling section wasn't till the end of the 4 hour workshop. We created a few embossed pieces, (seen above) but personally unless the print has been laser cut i cannot seen the benefit of this technique effecting or fitting to my current practise as i wasn't overly happy with the finish this could be suitable for a brief later in the year or another time so i guess it was good to learn.
FOILING -
At the end of the of the session we did learn how to foil, we didn't get to create any foiled context our selfs as this process is very time consuming and needs earlier planning but we watched susie foil and know the process means that i can do in this the future. HOW TO FOIL- screenprint using a fabric screen the glue (bought from the shop), cover foil over paper, place under heat press, press, remove excess foil.
Even thought for the current brief foiling isn't a particularly relevant technique it could enhance my 3rd year or future practise. It looks effective at the final exhibition last year so i wanted to know to do it now i can, useful.
