Tetley 3rd Birthday
The tetley in leeds is big art studios spaces as well as a art gallery, tonight is its 3rd brithday as its now been open for 3 years to celebrate this there is a party on tonight. Due to the gallery's artistic nature and studios there i'm assuming that this night will be a great chance to meet more creative and network more with the industry. This will be a great chance to meet people from the studios there or to make any connections with the gallery it's self (for future work, for jobs, for studio places).
Issue - this is the same night as the intern magazine launch, since this event starts at the same time 6 as this one runs later till 'late' this will be better to go to after the previous event which ends earlier.Trying to fit in both these events was stressful, a lot of running/getting lost was involved.

free cocktails i got my the sponser rum
Over all this event was a bit of a waste of time if it wasn't for the free booze and cake, this is due the the fact that no creatives turned up or left before we managed to get there. When asked the organizer they said there wasn't a large advertising fund so it was heavily advertised to creatives our age more just the senior funder or business partners of the gallery. This meant that everyone at the event was a lot older and in more professional/no creative job suit, this then meant that there wasn't really anyone there we could network or was interested in networking with us. We felt very out of place at the event, but it was good to go to receive the free booze and to explore the tetley more. The one person i did get to talk to was the photographer for the event, a past LCA photographer who graduated 3 years ago. We discussed what he was doing now which turned out to be mostly free work, like this event or events like wedding ect to get his name know when he would have preferred to do fashion imagery, this seems a common theme for creatives straight out uni i will have to do work i'm not interested or that doesn't suit me to make a living once i leave.Overall though he said one thing he missed out on whilst at uni was ppp (one i explained why i was there) he said he just passed it and wished he'd done more because he's doing that now, it was quite inspiring to here this from someone else mistakes because it's drove me to go and do more stuff like this whilst i can. It seems more like as he wished he'd done it i will in the future if i do not, therefore even though the event wasn't very useful i will still aim to go to more and more over the year just incase they are. |
