PPP - STDUIO BRIEF 1 - Illustrator Work

One of my aims on this course and an area i feel i need to improve is how i can't use illustrator/indesign, this will effect my personal practise as well as professional as it means i can't use industry based software. These are the program used in every day life in the professional work and are created for my subject field, for this brief i have decided to try and force myself to use these systems. After talking to all my friends/peers on the course who use the software the overall feel about how to improve my knowledge with these application is to use them with their help and also via you tube videos or a self help book. I have ordered a book relating the these programs that will help me learn the basic of the software but for now for this brief i will have to just watch youtube videos.

aim - create smooth lines using a wacome tablet using illustrator for studio practice brief 1
what i need to draw -

make these into vector using photoshop

research -

first i tried to create the shapes using the pen tool on illustrator but found out quickly this is just like the pen tool on photoshop,  therefore i was aware of how to use it and what it crete but this was not fit for this brief as it create shapes rather than lines, its very hard to get a equal thickness line using this technique.

paintbrush tool

After the pen tool was not suitable for my aims of creating typography based vectors i had to google how to use a wacome tablet on illustrator instead which came up with the ideas of using the pen tool, this will allow me to draw directly on to the art board like with a paintbrush. I thought this would be the same as it in photoshop where it create disjointed, accurate lines that reflect exactly the hand movement of the pen but this creates uneven, wavey not smooth lines which i need for this brief.

smooth lines on illustrator
videos i watched-
not very useful as it on a different version to illustrator i have

this video taught me how to set up my pen and how to change my brush stoke, how to alter my size, how to change it so it relates to my touch, light touch = thin line, hard touch = thick line
most important part of this video was how it taught me to edit the fidelity of the line, this is exactly what i wanted to know! this allowed me to create lines that where smoother and therefore looked more professional for this brief.

FIDELITY IS EVERYTHING

experiments created on illustrator after learning how to change the fidelity and create smoother lines
