PPP - STUDIO BRIEF 1 - Paris

Paris Visit

this September i visited paris for the second time, I when for a week with my friends from school before we all felt for uni. It was one of the best trips of my life. From all the art galleries, cafes, shops  to clubs and bar every Paris is beautiful, its so inspiring to go as it makes me want to go out and create beautiful art to belong here. Paris is in my opinion architecturally amazing because of the way it keeps its old styles but adds modern design to enhance its beautiful. The city is crisp and sharp where every scene looks like a post card.

Paris combines interesting of traditional beautiful elegant architecture with busy modern styles of hand made craft yet modernist design principles to create a city that is very creative in different ways. There new design/type/styles everywhere and i feel that if i could live anywhere in the world i would pick here, its my new goal to live in paris.

PPP - STUDIO BRIEF 1 - Photography Workshop

as photography is one of the areas i need to improve/learn to help enhance my visually products of my work i went to a work shop, this is what i learnt for the workshop.
i currently scan most of my pages/items in as this is the best way to get better quality imager of my ideas/designs but i feel that over time and in the professional world this is a skill i will need to perfect to help me show my work to the best.

this work shop showed me how to use/rent cameras at uni, how to set them up, how to change the setting and what effect the apture and shutter speed have on the photographs.

PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP

FIRST THINGS TO DO WITH CAMERAS
- set to manual
- clear memory card
- reset settings
- auto white balance
- ISO

In this worksop we were told about how the aperture and shutter speed effect the light and movement in the image. The larger the shutter speed the longer light is absorbed but the lens causing a more burred movement image, this can be used to capture movement  in photography and add depth to the photograph.

the faster th shutter speed the more precise and sharp the image, it takes s snap shot of the movement. we experimented with this using a spinning coin and running water. i turned up the shutter speed for the doing and down for the water to see the different effects.

High Shutter Speed

none burred, clear image that takes a photo of whats happening in the spilt second.

Low Shutter Speed

the water is seen as running as the image is more burred because the lens is open for a longer time.

APATURE

Apature relates to the amount of light the lens lets in, its open idea at a small aperture and smaller for a larger aperture, this increases and decreases the bightness and light in the photograph.

PPP - STUDIO BRIEF 2 - Tumblr

TUMBLR

Over secondary school and most of sixth form i used Tumblr quite abit as a source of inspiration/influence for my fashion choices, styles, music ect as it was a way i could connect and follow people with the same interest as me, it was a way i could connect with the world and show them a collection of things i likes. Tumblr and my blog became a massive influence on my life because it was a way of collecting a selection of things i liked, it showed me different styles of clothes/music/design/photography that wasn't around at my school. I no longer use Tumblr as much as i used Instagram/pinterest more but i still have my blog and post every now again therefore i thought this would give an insight to stuff i like, show things that appeal to me and styles of work that visually i find interesting. This site is different to instagram because i don't have to create the images myself just reblog them for them to show up on my page. Here is a collection of images taken of my tumblr blog -

These are my recent tumblr post that i post before this brief was set so these just based of my creative and personal interests.

Paris -
Most of the images include photos of Paris, this relates to my trip in September to the city, i have been completely captivated by the beauty of the architecture, shops and culture of the city therefore it is one my goals in life to live here this is reflect in my tumblr blog clearly.

Music -
Music is a major part of my life, i listen to it almost constantly to help me work/concentrate or to help clear my head. Music relaxes me and de-stresses me more than anything else, this is vital to me as i'm constantly worried/stressed about something so i relay on it. Most of my music taste is indie music from different decades, this is reflected here as i have uincluded guitar imagery, photos of the Beatles ect, posts about music are a large part of my blog as it a large part of my life.

Autumn/70s colour scheme -
Most of the posts fit a pattern with colour scheme, they are either black and white, light blue, or autumn darker reds/browns. These is a my favourite colours, i find them calming, crispy and warming but complement each other as not of them are too bright so they dont stand out too much. After comparing this colour scheme to my wardrobe i can see a direct correlation, the colours i wear and the colours i like all fit the colour of the 70s. This is colour scheme i stick to mostly in my life (sometimes i add more shaded of blue) . These colours are seen a lot in fashion from the 70s and now in charity/vintage shops this maybe where i have discovered and come to pick them out, they're duller more aged colours which reflect my style well.

Postive Type -
Tumblr can be a really depressing website and there is a lot of negative posts but on my blog i try to keep the over all feel positive, i think associating yourself with negative type/saying will effect your mood negatively which is counter productive. Positive thought positive mind right? Over all as a designer/creative i try to create positive work that reflect this, or create work that has a positive outcome (charity/recycling). This may relate to the colour scheme i picked above as overall because it shows lighter warmer colours mostly that reflect a more positive out look on life.

Type -
Type is a common theme on my blog like on my pinterest page and Instagram, this is as i loveeee good type. Type that fits its purpose or decorative type, or emotional type or historic type, whatever the style i think that type is the best way to creative express feelings or emotions whilst looking aesthetically pleasing. Type can convoy a meaning regardless of the words/sentences, but due to the structure and letter forms that the artist uses. Type can reflect almost anything which can be used successfully create brands, brand identities, advertisements, leaflets and be the basic for any graphic design.

PPP - STUDIO BRIEF 1 - Letter Press

Letter Press Induction -

In todays work shop we learnt how to set type in a case, set up letter press, organized the letter so they print the correct way, ink up, clean, and use the letter press equipment in our uni. I've never used letter press before but think the old style is typographically really important, as type is one of my main interest is type i think learning how it used to be created before digital times is vital to help me understand how type has evolved and how it is created, how it links back to the first style of printing.

My first experiment didn't work out that well as i placed it too low down on the press so the bottom didn't print as this was over the bar that hold the paper in place. Also i removed the design too fast and took it home before it dried causing it to smug a lot in my bag.  Next time i will use bigger letters, leave it for longer to dry and make sure i have the type in the middle of the chase so it prints all of the letters, i'm going to do a more experiments with this style for my set brief so i can to use my love for manual printing in my work.

PPP - STUDIO BRIEF 1 - Law 7 Launch

LAW 7 LAUNCH

The other day i went to the Corn exchange book store for the launch of the free 7th issue of LAW magazine. The magazine is mostly based around nature and portary they way humans don't really look at the world, it document what it calls the ‘overlooked beauty’ and gives it platform to be seen.
This launch showed many copies of the new issues displaying the unique guided style that contrasted with the naturally images. All the pages are create in different way to show the images to best of the ability this included different stocks and styles for each page. After talking to some people at the event i got informed that second years at my university had helped out with some of the photos in this issues which is amazing and hopefully something i want to do in the future. The over all trip was really informative as it showed a venue i will want to visit in the future.

‘LAW is concerned with documenting the overlooked and giving people a sense of belonging and recognition that perhaps they wouldn’t normally receive but in no, way shape or form less deserve; style tribes who may not be at the forefront of fashion but have a very particular aesthetic in their own right.

LAW is a window into the world of the current-undercurrent that nobody is catching and is therefore of greater importance to document. For how long will 90’s Umbro diamonds and Vauxhall Novas still align the streets, from bottom drawers and charity shops, through used car dealers with luminous stickers along pavements stuck in polka dots?’

PPP - STUDIO BREIF 2 - What do i want to be in ten years?

10 YEARS POWERPOINT

this powerpoint was really difficult for me because i have no idea what i want to be doing or have done in ten years, i have made some many drastic life choices over the last 6 months that even the thought of thinking this far ahead scares me. Ten years is a long time, ten years ago i was 10 and wanted to be a doctor, this lead me to thinking about what life choices i've made and my past has effected what i want to do. Its effected me in a way that shown me more what i don't want to be doing in ten years rather than what i do, its informed my motivation to get out of a dead end job and to leave my home town. I feel like a powerpoint on what i don't want to be doing is more relevant because this is what i actually know and it will inform my life in ten years.
