- We really pinpoint the tone of voice of your collective and what its aims are this is as mentioned how university work is stressful, etc, it has negative undertones - should not be seen as negative to link to the positive theme of the exhibition
- Likes the name of the collective and the playful tone of the exhibition
- Likes the branding/Style
- Should explore the creative more, but maybe not a exhibition

PPP 2- STUDIO BRIEF 2- 100 Days of Type
100 Days of Type
A current trend on the social media site Instagram is to create and post 100 days of a selected topic, this has been done by many different creative or people for a variety of reasons with a wide range of topics.
This trend started off in New Zealand due to the project 100 Days, this a site where anyone can join and then take part in the 100 days challenge but as the start day of this is August this cannot be done for this years PPP so personally i am starting the brief now instead.
http://100daysproject.co.nz/
People create the social media hashtag 100daysof... as one of the aim of this year is to get back into typography which i tried to do last year so for this i will pick 100daysoftype as my subject area.
This project will allow me to create 100 piece of type for my portfolio whilst also will allow me to create a social media site which i use everyday, and it will also allow me to spend 10 minutes a day creating something not relating to brief or other work but just for myself and for my personal interest. Also hopefully this project will allow me to get to know how to use illustrator more as still i struggle with the software.
Also an issue i had this year and last year was that i didn't feel my work looks aesthetically pleasing, hopefully the research and the work for this brief will allow me work more on this. To find more text types, fonts, style i like and trends which i can use in my other briefs.
RULES -
-create 1 piece a day
-only take 10 minutes
-take inspiration from anything/my day/other work
-post it everyday on the social site on my professional Instagram page with the 100daysoftype hashtag.
-make it visually heavy
-start tomorrow
-document it on this blog
-manual or digital

PPP- STUDIO BRIEF 3 - Lifes A Pitch Collective
Lifes A Pitch Collective
This year over the project book for 504, COP, greenall's and creative report for this module i've become largely more interesting in manual production techniques/typographical and processes compared to the purply digital briefs like the COW website rebrand. This has been a big influence on my practise as i've started to create less digital/perfectly design work, i feel this is a development of my personal more messy style i explored in my self branding for first year. I've realized that heavily prefer manual or imperfect design rather than minimal grided work, more illustration based design styles.
An aim for this brief is therefor to find a group to work with that fit with this aim, other that prefer to work manual or prefer the visuals of manual work.
After talking to a range of other students across the courses, i've found a selection of graphic designer that agree with this principles and that styles match mine. As a collective ourself we feel our work is heavily based around manual design, more illustrative graphic design styles than other design work. The collective consist of Nanami Butler, Leach Chen, Katie Sung, and myself, the aim is to create an outcome that celebrate our common interest in design. our inspiration come for more illustrative areas than minimal editorials and we want to celebrate this style of work via this project. MANUAL DESIGN IS GREAT.
As a group we also want to make art fun again, currently due to deadline stress we feel that part of the design process as graphic designer we never get to create piece purely for ourselves outside of uni. Most of the work we do if informed by research and concepts where all the design elements come from defined reasons, as we want to create an exhibition where people can use create something fun. BRING THE FUN BACK TO ART. LESS SERIOUS ART.
For the name of the collective we want it to represent our aims, as a group we discussed the name.
names -
'manual party'
'made by us'
'hand made'
'hand stuff'
'manual stuff'
'less serious'
'no rules'
'art is fun'
After discussing the name the aim of the group is be more light hearted less serious manually created art we need a aim that reflect both these aspects, so due to the comical implications of 'Hand Job' and as well as the direct meaning, something created by hand we all feel this suits us. It expresses our aims but also our tone reflectively.
We are Hand Job, less serious manually created art
logo development -
As the whole idea about the brief is manually created art the logo must be manually designed, as a group we conducted a few different experiments for the logo and branding.
Final logo/colour scheme
After talking more as a group about our manifestio we've decided that the aim is to bring the fun back to art, create something that allows fun work to be created. No serious, work where the artists isn;t jugde or marked on so can just created something that like, for that reason, that like it. As we want to go this we realised that is like art we created in school, like finger painting and art classes from school that were no serious, messy fun therefor this is theme for our work. Art class, retro school time and due to this we aim to reflect this playful bright primary nature in our branding colour scheme and styles.
What do we want to be?
After deciding on our collective idea and aim we needed to think of the final idea for this outcome, what did we want to organise.
As a group we decided that we wanted to plan an exhibition, this is so that during deadline times the 3 course and all of uni could create piece for the exhibition just for fun. Rather than just showcase our work, we want to promote ourself and the rest of uni in this playful fun way. The theme would be fun art, primary art and the whole exhibition would be based around throw backs to primary school. The exhibition would be a throwback to the times before stress and serious problems as way to allow the uni to relax and remember why they loved art in the first place.
group ideas-
SCHOOL DISCO THEMED OPENING NIGHT
NAME BADGE HAND WROTE LABELS FOR THE WORK

PPP STUDIO BRIEF 2 - Presentation Planning
Plan-
For the presentation for PPP this year i aim to reflect my path this year, what i have learn and how it's effected me. The main theme of the presentation will be what i've learnt from the interviews/workshops/visits conducted and how this has influenced my practise.
BE A PATH // SHOW LEARNING THEN SHOW EFFECT ON PRACTISE.
As the presentation need to show our key learning point in the year, these need to be identified so i can include them.
- HATED summerwork
- 504 BOOK editorial is a weakness
- 504 design for screen is a weakness, prefer manual print work/less formal graphic design
- YCC talk, i LOVE Advertising (and Charlotte and Danny)
- Charlotte quote -
- Lord Whitney Quote -
- Intern magazine Advice - Network, Network, Network
- Behance Set UP, Need more professional imagery of work
- 100's Days of Type, i love type, actually enjoy doing this
- Emailing isn't as scary as i thought
- 503, loved the advertising brief, struggled with group work
- COP, enjoyed the essay research/writing as its about advertising
- Probably should go into advertising, Look for placement over summer
- i LOVE smart advertising, what i want to do
- Fem Fest influenced 505
Look at last years presentation, use the last slide as a starting point,
STILL CONFUSED BUT SLIGHTLY LESS CONFUSED, have learn more about advertising so aims to learn more about type.
design style-
a path? drawn it as a path i've learnt

PPP 2- STUDIO BRIEF 2 - Charlotte Interview part 4
This morning i sent off my questions to Charlotte at Iris, amazingly Charlotte has already mannage to reply to me.
response -
What where your main steps before and after uni to help you get to where you are now?
Who's been your favorite client or clients to work for/with?
And also, if there any journals or sites you follow daily that give you inspiration?
response -
When did you release you wants to go in advertising?
It was weird really, I’ve always been artistic… I only ever enjoyed Art in school. But when It was in school the only career related to art that anyone spoke about was becoming an art teacher or just being an artist. Neither appealed to me, so I tried to specialise in subjects like geography and travel & tourism (random) but I just didn’t enjoy it. Then one day, no word of a lie I was watching Friends on TV and it was the episode where Chandler Bing decides to change his career. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtnZUa9UFhg] He decides to go into advertising and I thought it sounded cool, I’d never considered it before. So I researched online and found a university course that offered it (UCA Farnham) and applied! So yeah, it was so random.
(it wasn't a focus but a random thing, she was lost to, least its not just me)
What where your main steps before and after uni to help you get to where you are now?
So after school I decided to go to Sixth form, mainly because my friends did… but I hated it. As said above I didn’t enjoy anything except Art. So after one year of AS Levels I quit and joined Plymouth College of Art to do a National Diploma in Art & design. I loved it, I got the opportunity to do loads of different things; like graphic design, pottery, textiles, web design even glass blowing. It was during my graphic design module I got my first taste of advertising as we had to create posters. It was so basic back then, but I really liked how I could use my creativity to concept not just create. I loved coming up with ideas and when I realised I could get a job doing that… I was all over it!
So after college as said above I went to UCA farnham where I studied Advertising and Brand Communication. It was a great course (at the time, can’t speak for it now) This is where I met Danny (my partner in crime) and we teamed up and started working as Art Director & Copywriter (I’m the copywriter, Danny is the Art Director) together from second year we started doing placements in agencies In-between studying. So like on easter holidays or in the summer. We even went to New Zealand and worked at Y&R auckland for 4 weeks, which was amazing!
We graduated in 2012 and kept doing more and more placements to build up our agency experience. From small places like Founded (who are actually now a part of iris) to bigger agencies like BBH! Eventually we ended up freelancing for someone we’d met whilst on placement, that freelance job turned into another job and another etc. Then one day a recruiter got in touch with us via Twitter and asked us if we’d consider a role at iris. We went for an interview in early 2013 and the rest, as they say is history!
(I really liked how I could use my creativity to concept not just create. I loved coming up with ideas and when I realised I could get a job doing that, i can relate so so much to this. Start doing placements as much as possible this year and next, over the holidays or whenever i can. Experience is vital, get as much as possible as soon as possible, GET ON TWITTER PROFESSIONALLY)
In the talk you mentioned campaigns you wish you'd thought or have helped with, any campaigns other or projects, beside the Adidas neo recently you've seen you wish you'd help our with or had the idea for?
Stuff I’d wish I’d done:
Non advertising, but still an amazing idea: http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/community-fridge-launches-in-brixton-to-cut-food-waste-and-help-those-in-need_uk_589adfd0e4b07685621793db I just love this because its solving a real-world problem.
Advertising idea: Free the kids, for persil. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Q2WnCkBTw0
This is amazing, and it’s all driven by a really strong insight, that some kids spend less time outside thans.prisoner Now, you may think what’s that got to do with Persil? But Persil’s brand line is “Dirt is good” which is part of an initiative to get kids spending more time outside. Read about it here: http://www.dirtisgood.com. I just think this is so clever and really shocking and people say content (So advertising that’s view online, youtube, facebook etc) has to either be shocking, funny or relatable. This does shocking extremely well!
(THIS ADVERT IS AMAZING, this is what i love - BETH)
Oldie but a goodie: This for the Guardian. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_SsccRkLLzU
Absolutely incredible, so simple but really gets their ‘the whole picture’ message across, which they still use. It’s so very clever and won tons of awards.
(DON'T HAVE TO BE COMPLEX TO BE AMAZING AND WIN AWARDS, IT'S ABOUT THE IDEA, GOOD ADVERTS COME FROM GOOD IDEAS)
Stuff I have done & am proud of:
Gamestore: http://www.ohhaicreatives.com/gamestore/ something super fun we did last Christmas. Gamestore (Part of the National Lottery) asked us to help them sell more Scratchcards. Now we realised at Christmas often people would buy them to put in crackers or even as gifts. So we create bespoke Christmas Cards which could be given out for free with a scratchcard purchase, so you could gift it to someone else. We’re hoping to do more of these for other occasions in the year too.
Nectar:http://www.ohhaicreatives.com/#/nectar/ This was Nectars first big brand campaign on TV. We had the job of bringing to life just how many partners nectar has, it’s not just Sainsbury’s! So we created a campaign around the thought that no matter who you are, or what you like, you can get personalised offers from Nectar on what you like.
We did a TV Campaign, as well as social media posts and youtube pre-roll advertising. You can read all about it on our site.
Are there any adverts or advertising project you remember really loving to take part in?
I love working with Camelot on any project, it’s a super fun brand and the work we’ve been doing with them is really exciting.
I also love working on any extra curricular projects. There’s a whole section on Danny and I’s website for personal projects. You can see them all here:
(http://www.ohhaicreatives.com/personal-projects/#/sign-language/ this my favorite of their personal work, love this idea that everyone now understand emojis)
Also you mention twitter being a great way to connect with people, any one you've meet/found on twitter that been a massive influence?
Obviously we got our job through twitter as a recruiter found us on there.
(use twitter more, follow these people )
But there’s tons of super good people to follow:
https://twitter.com/TheTwoDragons – Me and Danny! Haha
https://twitter.com/YCC The YCC – what Danny and I help run. We always post stuff about events, advice, meet-ups etc.
https://twitter.com/AdJobWall – here’s where all the junior jobs (well most of them) get posted. Keep an eye out .
https://twitter.com/hackneydave – Chief creative officer of CP+B london, he’s a super good guy, super creative. Really insightful, worked in the industry for years and years and years! Proper advertising legend.
https://twitter.com/awlilnatty – Senior creative @ sunshine, check out some of the amazing projects she’s done.
https://twitter.com/The_Dots_UK – they do a lot of stuff with students, worth following.
https://twitter.com/shesaysuk – they provide mentors for young women starting out in the industry, it’s called “Who’s your momma mentors” look out for it and get one!!
https://twitter.com/CaseyJBird – president of SheSays! She runs the Who’s your momma thing
https://twitter.com/chrisdeabreu – Creative director at AKQA
https://twitter.com/DandADNewBlood – Student awards
https://twitter.com/dandad – industry awards
https://twitter.com/CreativeSocial – talks and events – try and go to these if you’re ever in London, they’re super.
Who's been your favorite client or clients to work for/with?
As I said , I love camelot. I also love working on Domino’s here at iris, they’re super playful and their audience is super engaged so, for example.. On the facebook page you can do lots of great things because people just love pizza and want to interact with the stuff we post.
And also, if there any journals or sites you follow daily that give you inspiration?
(follow these)
After studying the interviewing content, reviewing the adverts given, and following the accounts suggested, one quote really stood out to me, "I really liked how I could use my creativity to concept not just create. I loved coming up with ideas and when I realised I could get a job doing that" this is how i feel right now, if there is job where i can come up with ideas that would be amazing. This interview has made me feel that especially over next year i need to focus on advertising as this is probably the area i'd like to go in to, i feel i can relate to the way charlotte feels massively and this interview and the communication i've had which her has really inspired and motivated me. Most of last year and some of this year i've felt really lost, and i'm still not completely sure what i want to do but this interview allowed me to find slightly more direction.
At the end of last year i was confused between typography and advertising, which industry to go into therefor to explore typography more i'd like to explore this areas in more detail as part of the interview as well to see if this give the same motivation, comparison of both will explore both effectively so i can make a informed decision into what i want to do.
Also after the interview i aim to say in-touch with Charlotte to carry on receveing feedback from my project and my idea as i feel as she does this job feedback will e really useful as to where to explore and how to take the idea forward.

PPP - STUDIO BRIEF 3 - Briefing, Lifes A Pitch
Studio Brief 3
As part of this module we have to plan an end of year exhibition, publication or online presence as part of a creative across courses (with illustration and animation). As part of this brief we have to find an appropriate venue and create a fully developed proposal. As an important part of our professional growth is to develop an ability to work collaboratively and productively with others. Working in small mixed groups drawn from a number of LCA creative degree programme’s this brief aim is to develop fully and pitch a professional proposal for a public facing venture to best showcase and promote the individual works of the collective.
The groups should aim to be around 6 people for the different course and will aim to promote them or everyone on the courses. There has been a range of successful different collective from this uni, Goat Collective and Nous Vous in the past and the aim of this brief is to create and join one ourselves.
Th final outcome for this brief will take the form of a idea presentation pitch including visuals from the collective and outlined aims.
Through research and planning as a collective will we will explore the basics of how to identify an appropriate venue, audience and market, structure your team to optimize the individual learning experince and group skills and knowledge, investigate the legal and financial obligations of developing and launching a creative initiative, seek appropriate professional support & advice, plan and control finances and effectively promote, brand and communicate your presence to external parties and partners.
Today as part of this brief we'll explore studio 24, this is as this is a space we could used as the final exhibition space.
pictures form the spaces
good points
-big so good for animation
-very light
-moving walls
-good lighting
bad points
-lots of culture there
-very rustic/broken style
An issues with this space is as we found out during the visit it's very out of the way and very hard to find (we got lost) due to this other spaces will be explored too.
