This year over the project book for 504, COP, greenall's and creative report for this module i've become largely more interesting in manual production techniques/typographical and processes compared to the purply digital briefs like the COW website rebrand. This has been a big influence on my practise as i've started to create less digital/perfectly design work, i feel this is a development of my personal more messy style i explored in my self branding for first year. I've realized that heavily prefer manual or imperfect design rather than minimal grided work, more illustration based design styles.
An aim for this brief is therefor to find a group to work with that fit with this aim, other that prefer to work manual or prefer the visuals of manual work.
After talking to a range of other students across the courses, i've found a selection of graphic designer that agree with this principles and that styles match mine. As a collective ourself we feel our work is heavily based around manual design, more illustrative graphic design styles than other design work. The collective consist of Nanami Butler, Leach Chen, Katie Sung, and myself, the aim is to create an outcome that celebrate our common interest in design. our inspiration come for more illustrative areas than minimal editorials and we want to celebrate this style of work via this project. MANUAL DESIGN IS GREAT.
As a group we also want to make art fun again, currently due to deadline stress we feel that part of the design process as graphic designer we never get to create piece purely for ourselves outside of uni. Most of the work we do if informed by research and concepts where all the design elements come from defined reasons, as we want to create an exhibition where people can use create something fun. BRING THE FUN BACK TO ART. LESS SERIOUS ART.
For the name of the collective we want it to represent our aims, as a group we discussed the name.
names -
'manual party'
'made by us'
'hand made'
'hand stuff'
'manual stuff'
'less serious'
'no rules'
'art is fun'
After discussing the name the aim of the group is be more light hearted less serious manually created art we need a aim that reflect both these aspects, so due to the comical implications of 'Hand Job' and as well as the direct meaning, something created by hand we all feel this suits us. It expresses our aims but also our tone reflectively.
We are Hand Job, less serious manually created art
logo development -
As the whole idea about the brief is manually created art the logo must be manually designed, as a group we conducted a few different experiments for the logo and branding.

Final logo/colour scheme
After talking more as a group about our manifestio we've decided that the aim is to bring the fun back to art, create something that allows fun work to be created. No serious, work where the artists isn;t jugde or marked on so can just created something that like, for that reason, that like it. As we want to go this we realised that is like art we created in school, like finger painting and art classes from school that were no serious, messy fun therefor this is theme for our work. Art class, retro school time and due to this we aim to reflect this playful bright primary nature in our branding colour scheme and styles.
What do we want to be?
After deciding on our collective idea and aim we needed to think of the final idea for this outcome, what did we want to organise.
As a group we decided that we wanted to plan an exhibition, this is so that during deadline times the 3 course and all of uni could create piece for the exhibition just for fun. Rather than just showcase our work, we want to promote ourself and the rest of uni in this playful fun way. The theme would be fun art, primary art and the whole exhibition would be based around throw backs to primary school. The exhibition would be a throwback to the times before stress and serious problems as way to allow the uni to relax and remember why they loved art in the first place.
