PPP - STUDIO BRIEF 2 - Design Ideas

Design Ideas

for this project we have to create a piece of self branding that reflect use a designer and individual, it needs to be personal to use along with reflecting our practise and promoting us for future client/companies/designers.

After brain storming ideas of what makes me different and ways to reflect myself, i created some initial quick sketches for a crit where we did 'crit speeding dating'. This is that in pairs we went round the class getting feedback from others about our ideas, getting contact with people who didn't know our work or people who we didn't talk to so we could see how effective our ideas would be on strangers.

initial ideas

feedback -

 developed ideas -
After the 'crit speeding dating' the main issues was that people didn't currently understand my ideas therefore i have created some more in-dept sketches and ideas for the concepts to help me receive more accurate feedback. I will then get more feedback fro these idea for other to see which the feel if the most effective to reflect my practise, style and personal morals.

pin/badge idea -

post it note idea -

feedback -
stamp could be used to manually print logo
stickers could be used to apply logo
menu idea is unique but might get binned as junk mail
menu idea seems like it was suit a more package designer better
post it notes is very you, you have them everywhere!
as a designer i would use the post it notes where as i'm not sure if i'd use the rest
the package will get ripped for the sugar idea so it wouldn't be readable
the sugar and spice idea is very different, it would stand out
all the ideas are funny which reflect your style best and you don't your too seriously
stickers /pins would work to aim at other students well, look at that
printing on other adverts might cause distraction
printing on to over stuff might mean it just gets binned, like leaflets try receipts/hands more
the napkin idea sells you as just an advertiser too much
the napkin idea doesn't work if they don't know the saying
TRY COMBINING IDEAS
try to make sure you reflect yourself as a designer not just and advertsier

PPP - STUDIO BREIF 1/2 - Hand Job Type Book

Hand Job Type Book

After being introduced to the work of graphic artist Kate Moross and looking further into her work i found this book that contains a large amount of her and other artists like her work. Its called Hand Job and is a manual on hand drawn type, it isa collection of artist/work that fits with this style like Kate Moross. This book is amazing, its shows everything i love about graphic design and lettering in one place (colours, layout, different styles, different materials, different themes), its basically a collection of beautiful hand drawn type apply to briefs/jobs.

This book showed me that there is a place in graphic design for my style of work, and that there are professional artist that create work like this only. Its given me a large list of designers and artists that will influence my professional and personal practise in the future (404 studio brief 2). This book has shown me a collection of graphic styles that reflect my love for graphic design which was needed at this time as i was starting to doubt if this was the correct career path for me as i don't enjoy our current brief.

i need to start doing more work like this, work in this style in my own time to build up a portfolio of work i like.

In Hand Job, graphic designer and hand typographer Michael Perry curates a selection of work from fifty outstanding designers, illustrators, and typographers, who integrate hand-drawn type into their designs. Each entry is shaped entirely by the artist’s hand and unique process, including the unplanned “accidents"of line, color, and craft.

PPP - STUDIO BRIEF 1 - Kate Prior

Kate Prior

Kate Prior is a graphic/illustration artist that specialises mostly in poster design or leaflet work, her work is mostly for gigs and targets a young adult audience due to the bright contrast colour schemes. casual edgy nature of the work. I have seen some of the illustration for events/gigs situated in Leeds and came around her work after asking someone at Nation of Shopkeepers who designer their posters. As gig poster design/album design/advertising is a pathway i'm thinking of taking in the future this artist has inspired me by showing how diverse poster design can be, it doesn't have to just be a picture of the artist with a logo but completely unrelated if it engaged with the target audience.

The illustration style she uses is a style i will look apply to my work in the future, the stipple bold colour scheme that contrast to add a retro inspired feel, colours are den a lot in 90s clothing and fashion. The type also mimics styles uses in this decade but its modernised but the illustrations.
