Hand Job Type Book
After being introduced to the work of graphic artist Kate Moross and looking further into her work i found this book that contains a large amount of her and other artists like her work. Its called Hand Job and is a manual on hand drawn type, it isa collection of artist/work that fits with this style like Kate Moross. This book is amazing, its shows everything i love about graphic design and lettering in one place (colours, layout, different styles, different materials, different themes), its basically a collection of beautiful hand drawn type apply to briefs/jobs.
This book showed me that there is a place in graphic design for my style of work, and that there are professional artist that create work like this only. Its given me a large list of designers and artists that will influence my professional and personal practise in the future (404 studio brief 2). This book has shown me a collection of graphic styles that reflect my love for graphic design which was needed at this time as i was starting to doubt if this was the correct career path for me as i don't enjoy our current brief.
i need to start doing more work like this, work in this style in my own time to build up a portfolio of work i like.
In Hand Job, graphic designer and hand typographer Michael Perry curates a selection of work from fifty outstanding designers, illustrators, and typographers, who integrate hand-drawn type into their designs. Each entry is shaped entirely by the artist’s hand and unique process, including the unplanned “accidents"of line, color, and craft.
