After the idea of compiling a combined reported that will contain a range of different professional response rather than 1 long response how this would be presented, the theme of the feedback, the questions asked needed to be formed.
FORM??What will the end product?
zine/booklet - After taking part in a zine workshop a few months this has inspired me to create my own self published art book, this could be an area to explore form of report. From feedback and self assessment from the 405 i realised that editorial design isn't a personal strong point, but this would be chance to explore this whilst still documenting the report in a formal fashion. This would be a chance to explore this currently popular area of design whilst working on a weakness. Also due to zine nature this could be printed and sent to the artists included. Also could be a effective way to create something that could have a range different views without being overpowering with content, less formal that a book/publication. This idea relates to the books purchased earlier this year, these were bought to improve my typographical skills manually via advice and diagrams, there show that there is market for this can of document. 'A zine is most commonly a small-circulation self-published work of original or appropriated texts and images, usually reproduced via photocopier. Usually zines are the product of a single person, or a very small group.' page for each designer quote.
poster range - Depending on the amount of response receive a poster could an effective way to record the content, this could included the range of different feedback is a visually pleasing way. Each individual artists could have a separate poster produced with their quote on. The style of the artist could be mimicked An issue with this idea is that as the report need to be at least 500 words long this could be hard to create on a poster yet be readable, long quotes could have issues.
leaflet/card set - This would be a smaller versions of the posters, miniature leaflet set that would have a leaflet per designer, these would be able to given to the designers and would be printed on different coloured stock to differentiate the designer.
After considering the ideas the zine would work best to showcase a larger range of responses in one document which the audience could view in as a collective. where as the poster or card set would be more effective to express larger quotes yet less quotes in a more dramatic way by draw attention to the type but only if there 7 or less quotes otherwise would be too expensive/timely to produce an individually poster for the quotes. The aim is to get as any responses as possible so the zine will be aimed for but if only a few reply the posters set will be produced.
THEME, What will the theme be?
As part of my PPP this year i've been currently experimenting with 100 days of type, this is a mixture of typographical styles and ways to design/create different type piece, this is due to this being a personal area i want to improve as well as being a focus of mine. This is a focus of my PPP this year exploring different typographic design this could be used as the idea for the theme of the question.
Last year I attend a view of a documentary, made you look, which explored professional in the design industries opinions on the benefits of digital vs manual design in the digital age, this was also explored in my last year COP work with print technique and the role of print in the digital era. A issue with discussing this are is that it has been greatly discussed by many different designers in different mediums, films, TV, books and is a common theme therefore to be unique the report would have to be less open, this could be by applying it to the interest in typography. DIGITAL VS MANUAL BUT TYPOGRAPHICAL
Whilst create the 100 days of type typographical pieces i've experiment with digital and manual type style vastly and currently are unsure of which i personally prefer or which is easiest or give the best effect. Due to this advice on how to improve the typographic style, how best to take advantage of digital mediums, which medium the artists prefer could be the focus of this report whilst would also enhancing my other work for this module and general practice as benefiting my specialist area.
ASK IF THEY PREFER TO TYPE DEISGN DIGITALLY OR MANUAL?
