Michael Perry Response
As part of my zine project i emailed Micheal Perry on of the most inspirational typographer that have effected my practise, before Micheal Perry created and i found 'Hand Job' i was never aware of typography as a suitable/viable career path or even the how much it could be used and how amazing it could be. As earlier in the year i emailed Charlotte a professional advertiser about my work and found her feedback massively motiving and causes me to be more in this driven of my practise, i;ve decided to do this as much as possible. This is to get useful crit feedback from professional whilst also getting my style and my work out there, showing potentional employers or collaborators my work, (NETWORK, NETWORK, NETWORK, learnt for my intern interview).
As i've not received feedback from some of my emails to professional i wasn't expecting a response from Michael due to his very busy work commitments but he's assistant replied! (*fangirls*)
'Exploration, imagination, and simply enjoying what you do are the most vital aspects of creativity. I think the best way to improve is just time and practice' -this links to my aims of 100 Days of type, i need to keep doing this more and more
Like with the Kate Moross feedback instead of completing a interview Mike wants to send over some supplies, this is amazing. I sent over my address and they said they'd send over the material asap but as its america they might not get here for a while.
As sending out quite a few emails for this project the more i sent the less anxiety i got about sending them, before i was really nervous about getting ignored or annoying professionals yet from the responses i've received it seem quite the opposite. Artist seem to love getting send emails from their fans and have been really lovely back, even twice now offering feedback and free materials! Due to this i think over the course of summer and next year i'll be largely more confident to ask for feedback and to contact professionals, now looking back it seem silly i was terrified of this at the start of the brief. This project has been incredibly useful due to this as i've got more confident due to the contacting process as well as i've learnt how to get feedback from professionals as well as from all the different responses. EMAILS ARE NOT SCARY.
