PPP - STUDIO BRIEF 2 - Bookmarks

Bookmarks

Fr this brief i created the texture experiments for my stamp, these used a large amount of paper scraps i had found that where different colours/materials, mostly left over GFSmith samples people in my class has ordered. But after printing on them as i didn't want these to go to waste (wouldn't fit with the idea of being eco freindy) because on of the aims i wanted to portray was my passion for saving the planet, so i wanted to find away of using them to send to business/give to people as a way of advertising myself.

I finished writing the link to my Instagram page on them, this shows how i will use my stamp in a professional content, with the 'beth' part stamped then the '.designs' hand drawn over.

As the stamp and the hand drawn text works together to create my branding, this reflect my love of print but also manual type in a creative way, each stamp and text will be slightly different every time which adds a sense of personalization to the branding each time. Over all this reflects my practise by combining the styles but also my interest as a designer by showing the way i like working to potential clients/collaborators, it gives them a small insight into me.
VERY CLEAR I WORK BETTER/PREFER MANUAL AS ITS ALL CREATED MANUALLY.

As at the start of the brief i said i didn't want to create business cards, i don't want to give companies these texture experiments as business cards but as a object they can use as designer. After struggling to think of an idea of what to use these samples as, i came up with 3 different things i use in my everyday life as part of my design practise -
post its to remind me to do stuff
bookmarks in books to highlight artist i like/pages to reread
spare paper/pad to write to do lists on

i asked my friends/peers which of these they would prefer to use as designers, this is so when i send the objects off to potential employers they will use them rather than just bin them like a buiness card which causes less waste, they will use them in their everyday lives to keep them associated with my brand/me. These are the answers i got back -
post it notes  = 8
bookmarks = 13
pad = 2

verbal feedback -
pad causes waste once used anyway
the paper might be too thick for post it notes
cause some of the paper is dark any writing on it might not been seen
the bright colours will make them stand out as post its/book marks
each one has bad points and good points
might be too thick paper to use as post its as its heavy
heavy will make it work better for a bookmark though
because of the bright colours/different textures they'll stand out against pages in a book
every designer uses all the stuff so i don't know

overall most popular bookmarks
because of this i have cut down the paper into strips, that are wide enough to be used as bookmarks, i will now send these off to different design/advert agencies which a letter explaining myself as a designer and explaining they are book mark (i got feedback saying this needs to be made clear as they look a bit like weird shaped business cards).

FOUND A USE FOR THE WASTE PAPER YAY

I understand this isn't the strongest idea for this brief but its makes sure i fit with my aims and stay true to myself as a designer but also a person, it allows me to reduce the waste whilst sending my brand to designer and getting my brand out there in a way thats different than just a business card. From my feedback this idea will work well as bookmarks, implies i read books, will get used hopefully and will keep people associated with my brand, also i think its a different way to advertise myself which will hopefully make me stand out as designer.

PPP - STUDIO BRIEF 1 - Instagram Update 2

Instagram Update 2

Throughout this project and my other briefs i have been constantly documenting my process, outcome and samples on my professional Instagram page. The more i have gotten used to uploading images for it and using it daily the more i have started to post, as i'm active on it now at least once a day i am getting more followers, more likes and more comments on my work. This is happening slowly but is increasing over time, this just means that i will have to carry on doing this till i get more and more followers, this is to increase the chances of me getting noticed on it which is the whole point.
The more i use it the most popular my page gets so over the next few weeks i aim to post at least one creative thing a day, even is this is someone else work i like, a gallery i visit, or something that inspires me. This is will create a page full of my design process that potential clients / employers /collaborators will see, this will allow them to see my work in the best light but also see how i work which will hopefully make they want to work with me.

USING SOICAL MEDIA AS FREE ADVERTISING

i have updated my name and display picture on the site to link to my house style and my rebrand for studio brief 2.

My name on instagram is a direct link to my advertising now as its beth.designs which is the name in my logo, this allows me to be searched on the site and google once people see my advertising/logo anywhere.

PPP - STUDIO BRIEF 2 - Texture Experiments

Texture Experiments

As one of the purposes of the stamp is to be able to recreate my logo/brand over existing work and paper to save on recycling paper/ink i need to make sure that it can be applied to different colours/texture and still be visible/legible. Which ever stamp works better on the different surfaces and colours will be the most success stamp as it will full-fill the aim of recreating my brand on other items. To see which work best i will print my logo on to different coloured scraps of paper with have different embossing, the first one will try will be a very highly textured piece to see the extreme effect.

stamp that worked best -
circle beth with the bolder lines, the bolder lines on this stamp allowed the ink-less section to be more clear as on the textured surface not all the stamp prints, there parts missing but because of the thicker line on this stamp it was clearer to see the contrast between the ink and gap.
THICKER LINES WORK BETTER FOR TEXTURED SURFACES

issue - this stamp isn't the same as my logo, as the logo is very detailed it cant be printed on a stamp this size this causes my house style to be inconsistent which is a branding issue.
the stamp does include part of the logo so i could hand write the 'design part' on after the stamps to make it more consistent.
It was very hard to create a stamp for the whole logo as it was very detailed and the type was hard to hand cut, because of this i will stamp the 'beth' part then hand draw the 'designs' section for the stamp. This does actually like to the idea of making my final stamp more personal the audience as every time i give out my details it will include something i wrote individually. LINKS TO LOVE FOR HAND DRAWN TYPE TOO. shows manual techniques, shows love for combination style, shows more than one interest.

printed logo = stamp + hand drawn text over the top

For inks i have used black as this is the basic logo colour and logo theory i researched said that i had to make sure the logo would work in this shade due to print cost /if it was in a newspaper as black in is cheaper so i tested this colour. I have also invested in green and burgundy ink, these are two of the many colours from my colour scheme but also as they contrast will allow them to be more diverse as a set, one will always stand out and against the background. Also i could get mustard yellow ink as it wasn't available.
As i have 3 different colours of ink (black, green, burgundy) i will experiment with these on different coloured paper to make sure that the logo is always readable, this is why i have used contrasting colours of inks so they will always stand out against a wide range of background colours.
red will stand on on green,
green will stand out on red,
black/red will on dark blue,
red/green/black will on pink, purple, orange, light blue, yellow, white

THERE IS ALWAYS A INK COLOUR THAT WILL WORK FOR THE COLOURED BACKGROUND
