PPP - STUDIO BRIEF 1/2 - Lino Stamp Experiments

Lino Stamp Experiments

To create a stamp for myself branding one of the ways to hand make a stamp i researched before was using lino and a lino cutter to cut of the area that wont print. Lino isn't an absorbent material so when ink is applied it should stay on the surface and therefore be easily applied to a different surface, it prints the section that isn't cut out. For this i needed to first buy lino and a lino cutter, i got a set on ebay that came with a handle for the stamp i would create which is really useful as it means i wont smudge the print when i remove the stamp/pick the stamp of the paper.

all experiments for this brief are conducted on recycled paper to make this brief more eco friendly/reduce the effect on the environment (fits with aims)

first experiments -

issues - didn't have any ink so had to use paint which gave a textured effect and dried quickly, therefore i added water the paint which made it too runny, BUY INK/STAMP PAD.
The lino printed in reverse which i didn't realize, so my next prints i will do backwards. PRINTS BACKWARDS
Its actually really hard to create smooth accurate line using the lino cuter, looks messy but this might work for my style? straight lines are a lot harder to create then curved lines, its harder to produce a stamp like this than i imagine therefore i will create a few to get better at the technique.  HARD

second experiments -

for these i bought an black, red and green ink pads
One of the issues with the last stamp was that it was backwards to i revered all my designs for these stamps, i also create a wide range of style that include different parts of my logo to see which worked best as a way to represent me. Also tried may different ones to help me getter better at using the tools, my aim was that after i had created a few stamps it would be easier to make them and make sure the lines where as i wanted them.
i tried - my logo, my hand drawn 'beth' part of my logo, the 'b' from my logo

beth logo circle experiments
test 1 thin lines

test two thicker lines, smaller circle

test 3 bigger circle, much thicker lines

Logo Shape Experiment

straight lines and the san serif letter on this logo stamp was really hard to recreate, the style make it look very different to the logo as it more uneven and sharper. This makes it look more like a scary/off putting font than it does on the logo design, also its a lot less clear to read therefore i don't think i'll use this stamp. The bottom font looks almost like its craved out of blood in the last image, its too scary to portray my brand.

simple b stamp experiments

The next step is to compare all the different stamp on a more textured background/coloured background to see which stamp is the clearest, this is to to make sure the stamp reflects my brand the best whist being the more readable for the audience.
