PPP - STUDIO BRIEF 1 - Nina's Article

Nina's Article

http://www.hercampus.com/school/durham/when-it-comes-friendships-do-politics-matter

One of my friends from school and sixth form has currently taken up writing for her university's (durham) on line blog/newspaper, although her article is based around the subject of politics which different strongly from graphic design in many ways  i did see some common features. When i started uni this year i came into contact with many different types of people that you defiantly wouldn't find in my small Yorkshire village at home. i think that as me and Nina are both from the same place this article related more to us that others, we grew up in a very small area where everyone knows everyone and everyone really has the same views on everything as we've been brought up being taught the same values (even at school from the same teachers or from our parent who are all friend and share common interest). Where i am from no one knows the basic of graphic design never mind the different between post modern, swish and modern  design styles, i can apply what Nina says about politics here to my subject. I've entered a world this year where people i've been come friends with suddenly think post modernism is the devil but i'm still friends with them? People who think advertising is the root of all evil and prefer branding (which i HATE), i have had to get over this and be friends with them and just learn that everyone would feel differently about design as i would.

"we can joke about what we believe, we don’t take ourselves too seriously, and probably most importantly, we don’t (/try not to) take things personally. Politics may affect every aspect of our lives, but it doesn’t have to be all of yours." apply this is graphics and i've felt less judged, less pressure to be a certain type of designer, more ways to be myself and design as i want, this will improve my practise as i can be passionate about my subject and apply my personal style to it. Its my work that got me a place on the course
