One of my aims for this year was to learn how to use all the workshops available in uni and experiment with them, this is so that next year i will be comfort with using them and will be able to apply these techniques to my brief. For this i have tried to be inducted into the different workshop as much as possible, today i went with a group to a ceramic induction which we organized ourself. This is so i could learn more about how ceramics worked, how to use them in uni and what equipment there was available for me.
points i learnt -
workshop are open most days for drop in
takes 3 days to quick kilm pot the first time, then after glaze 3 more days
DONT LEAVE TO DEADLINE
do loads of test as materials don't always work as you want them too
workshop staff will help but get busy
can press type into clay
quite cheap to buy clay
clay is really relaxing
different clays work with the same glazes in different ways
how to roll a slab
where everything is kept
My experiment of making my logo into a slab of clay, i will have to go back on Wednesday to glaze it as it takes 3 days to be fired
