PPP - STUDIO BRIEF 1/2 - Laser Cut Stamp Experiments

Laser Cut Stamp Experiments

For this brief i wanted to create a stamp of my logo, this would allow me to quickly brand anything i wanted in a print/messy/personal way that also is better for the environment than business cards. My aim was to create stamp of my logo that could be used which ink ect to print my logo on any surface, one of the styles of stamp making i tried was laser cut stamps.

Earlier i show how i created my stamps on the laser cut machine in uni, i created 4 different styles of laser cut stamp:
one was full cut out text

one cut out design but engraved beth

one cut out beth but engraved designs

one engraved the full thing

Now my aim was to print with them to see how they reacted to paint as a medium to print and how they worked with ink as medium.

all experiments for this brief are conducted on recycled paper to make this brief more eco friendly/reduce the effect on the environment (fits with aims)

first test with acrylic paint -

issues - The wood absorbed the paint so doesn't print anything well, paint drys on the wood to fast to create a print. To stop this i tried adding water to the paint to make it dry slower, this just cases the paint to be too fluid and run all over the page causing an unreadable print. The 'beth' part of the print didn't print as it was to delicate, the gaps in the ink made it unreadable, the designs part worked quite well though (before the paint ran). BEST PRINT GIVEN FROM THE FULLY CUT OF DESIGNS, engraved parts of the other designs didn't print clearly or at all. steps - try ink, try other method of stamp making.

benefits - accurate print of logo (if it printed) as the laser cut out an accurate design of the logo. This is more perfect than i can do by hand. Keeps a consistent house style.

second experiments with ink -

the ink was even more dry then the paint so the print where very very faint, this type of stamp doesn't work for this brief because of this
