Handmade Stamps
As a professional produced stamp might not be suitable for this brief due to
- might not arrive in time
- process to create it is damaging to the environment
- hard to find a decent priced site
- might be be reliable
My idea is to se idi can create a handmade stamp that i can use instead, this will also be more suitable for my brief as it will link to my interest in homemade crafts but is more practical is i can produce a stamp that is useable, clear and professional. Making my own stamp will allow me to have complete creative control over the final output, the layout, the size ect whilst make sure the stamp is ethically produced. This might also made a personal touch to the stamp as t will be less professional/digital which links to my aims of creative a brief that reflect my current design practise which is mostly manual.
if i can learn this process it might also help me in the future with future projects/work, its a new skill i could experiment with.
Research -
- things i don't have
idea 1
http://dearhandmadelife.com/how-to-make-a-diy-carved-rubber-stamp/
what to get:
–Carving
rubber (I used speedball’s speedy carve)
–Carving tool,
with #1 and #5 blades (also speedball)
-Pencil
-Eraser
-Plain white paper
-Stamp pad
-Craft knife
-Ruler
-Wooden disc or block (optional)
-Strong adhesive (optional)
-Muslin bag (optional)
ease - seem very simple, easy to produce, long lasting, need to buy equipment though,
ISSUE - can't get carving tools in time for deadline
SOLUTION - try with craft knife
idea 2
http://www.curbly.com/users/faith-towers/posts/15569-how-to-cork-stamps-two-ways
http://www.designmom.com/2012/09/perfect-gift-cork-stamps/
what to get:
corks
craft knife
cutting matt
ink
paper
ease - this idea seems harder to cut out of rubber but this will have to be tested, it might be harder to get a precise shape, hard to make an accurate cut
ISSUE- very small
SOLUTION - if it works i could buy a sheet of cork to do it on
Idea 3
http://www.instructables.com/id/Super-Easy-Custom-Rubber-Stamps/
What you will need:
Package of erasers (rectangles give you the most surface space but other shapes will work too)
1 Hobby knife
Linoleum carving blades (optional)
Ballpoint pen
Pencil
Piece of paper
Stamp pad
ease - this seem like a easier version of idea one than might not need the equipment i don't have, the items needed for this idea are a lot easier to get hold of in time for my deadline.
ISSUE - not as meet as i want, might be hard to do
SOLUTION - experiment and see the effects
idea 4
http://makezine.com/2011/07/05/how-to_make_no-carve_stamps/
materials
1/8″-thick acrylic plexiglass; can be found at hardware stores
X-Acto knife
Metal ruler
Silicone rubber caulking (clear); can be found at hardware stores
Water-based paint
Brayer

ease- this way of create a stamp seem like it might be the easiest, it seem like the way to create it without cutting would work really well to create a stamp for this brief
ISSUE - don't have most of the equipment needed, stamp final outcome isn't that clear
SOLUTION - buy stuff from hardware stores, it says its easy to get hold of, this idea will be my last resort.
http://www.instructables.com/id/how-to-make-foam-stamps/
need -
- adhesive craft foam sheet/foam craft stickers like these
- scissors and/or an x-acto knife
- cutting mat
- water based paint
ease - this style looks very easy to do as foam would be easier to cut and size than cork, this might be more suitable for this brief
ISSUE- need foam sheets
SOLUTION - ordered foam sheets
idea 5
use the laser cutter in uni to create a cut out of a wooden block, this would use a precise mechanic to create the cut out and allow me to be inducted into a workshop/equipment in collage that i can use.
need
- induction before i can use it
- wood
- JPEG stencil of stamp
ease- this would be the most practise idea and way to produce a stamp for this brief, its using the collage resources to produce my project work
ISSUE - can't get an induction before deadline
SOLUTION - try and go with another class, if possible
