PPP - STUDIO BRIEF 1 - Photography Lighting

PHOTOGRAPHY LIGHTING INDUCTION

One of my main aims for this year is to learn how to use the studio for photography in uni, this is an important part of my practise to learn how to use and take positive images of my work. I need to display and show my work to the best of my ability, to show it as professional as i can. This is allow me to create work that can be seen on blogs ect.

recap from last time -
FIRST THINGS TO DO WITH CAMERAS
- set to manual
- clear memory card
- reset settings
- auto white balance
- ISO

IMPORTANT BUTTONS ON LIGHTS
speaker = noise button
light = mood light ( light that shows how the flash will light but not as strong as flash, never take phothos with this)

BACKGROUND
clear - as shadowless as possible
white - clear background seem professional
black - highlights white paper, seem slick, seems dark

black background experiments -

These photos are of my book blinding experiments, i am actually really impressed with the outcomes as they look better quality and more professional than any photo i have taken of my work before, because of this i will make sure that if i ever need to take images of my work again i visit the photography studio, book one out and get a camera as i now know how to set it up.

auto white balance -

The White Balance setting you choose will change the colour balance in your pictures, making it warmer or cooler depending on how the sort of light you're shooting in affects things. Using Auto White Balance is the simple option, but your camera's White Balance presets give you more control over colour.

With auto white balance set on the camera

how change the white balance for the setting
- post a screen(grey sheet)
- take a photo of the grey screen (made sure it fills 70% of the photo)

- go to settings
- change white balance
- fit white balance to photo
- select photo of screen
no white reflection screen

white reflection screen added
adding  a white reflection screen causes the light from the flash to be reflected around all sides of the object so they seem over all lighter and there are less shadows in the imagery

review - this workshop was really useful for my personal and professional practise because its taught me a skill i can relate by to my briefs for my work but also taught me tricks about photography i can use on a day to day life. The overall images where a lot better than i expected, i was really impressed by the outcome as my normal outcome don't look as professional as this because of the lighting and quality. very useful workshop helped me achieve one of my aims for this year that i can then relate back to my work and practise.
