PPP- STUDIO BRIEF 2 - Final Development Logo (Post it Notes)

Final Development Logo

After looking more in depth into my current logo some feedback i received
-don't look professional
-looks like a children clothes brand
-its shows you but its  very particular style, do you want to show just that
- its pretty and its very hand drawn/manual
-i feel like i've seen it millions of times
-looks like loads of other brands
-very informal which fits with you style
-the font is lovely
-maybe try to combine it with more digital work to make it seem more professional
-add digital type ect to make it seem more like a graphics design rather than clothes ect
-aimed more at target audeince of little girls (clothes, jewellery ect)
-think there need to be more concept behind it rather just reflecting style

As most of the feedback said that this logo needs to be changed to make it more modern/professional i feel this is as it is a style that is associated with many other clothing/jewellery brands aimed a female audeince. I need my logo to appeal to a wider ranger of audience rather than just this so i will look at including more modern design aspects. Adding text thats less decorative will add a more minimalist modern feel as this is basics for these themes but i have to be careful to still include some type that reflects my personal style, include parts of this logo but change it to fit a more professional brief.

One person pointed out as that i had got very caught up in the development of the logo and the typeface/letter form i was creating i had lost the main concept behind the logo. Because of this i want to go back to my initial ideas and include some features from my other sketches/concept to see if i can include something more personal to me and how i work. Look to se if there is any shapes/uses/forms/ideas i can then apply to the logo to make it reflect me more.

ideas to include
-post it notes
-checklist
-modern work
-styles from leaflet ect i collect
-typebased
-combine digital and manual type
-casual feel
-colour scheme from 70s/shapes for this decade/type from this decade
-MORE MODERN

PPP - STUDIO BRIEF 2 - More Logo Research/ Logo Type

Logo Research

As i am creating my logo rebrand brief currently i have looked at logo designs for inspiration before i started creating my logo but now will create more detailed research into logotypes as i have started to develop my brand identity as a logo type. My aim is to look at famous successful logotype designs along with more creative smaller business/creative logo designs, this is to see what works for the bigger bands but also make sure it sticks to my aim of rebranding myself as a current student designer.

Also now have an idea of how i will use the logo design, as a stamp/sticker therefore this will inform my research as i will now look at minimal logos to see how they work as this will be easier to create/print more minimal stamps , also will work better from far away (sticker bomb research), also will work if it smudge slightly where as some of the more complex logo wont work for this style.

famous logo types

Smaller more minimal logo types for creatives

MOST ARE TYPE BASED
as more of this research included digital produced text that is more gridded then my ideas currently, the next step was to research different type faces that i could apply to my brand and see how this work in contrast with my current logo design style. Create a more minimal logo with decrotive touch as many of these style work, edit current type to make it more personal to me.

PPP - STUDIO BRIEF 2 - Final Logo

Final Two

From the survey i created the most popular logo set was this style -

this is as they felt that this was over all the more diverse logo design, it was a type that people have seen my doodling in and have seen reflect in my some of my work, examples-

People said that it reflect my sketchy more manual way of working along with my sketches i create when i'm bored, also people felt the curves could reflect my curly hair. The over all style is free, less perfected graphically style that reflect my current practice along with my personal looks, it the styles used in many shops logos ect that are vintage.

feedback -
The b on the bottom looks like a l
Bottom b looks like a I
Maybe they both look like a g

This means that i will have to work more on the first letter to create a style that reflect a b as this will be an in tail part of my designs and branding, i need the logo to be legible and readable so i can promote my brand using it. Because go this i will conduce more research into B fonts and how to make it look more like a B, maybe experiment with capitals even though this doesn't reflect my informal designs work or personality. As a student i don't want to seem like a serious form designer yet as i'm just finding out my work style/developing what i want to do, this needs to be reflected by my logo typeface.

test inspired by examples -

After more feedback the most popular letter that people said are most obviously a b rather than any other letter are highlighted. This is because of the closed bowl, and less of a slant on the letter this causes it be to associated with a G or  C. After creation so many i realised this and created these 3 with the idea of a longer ascender, this created a more suitable logo for this brief.

examples in context-

FEEDBACK - 'last two are the clearest. well like the most obviously b.design'
' the b needed to be the same size as the d to make it fit as letter form'
'the second ones in each set seem more suitable and like they fit better'
'the top ones don't really link and the flick on the b is smaller in comparison with the S this creates an unbalanced letter form'
'The bottom two seem more hand drawn as they look natural'
'i don't think i like the flick at all, test it with out it'

PPP - STUDIO BRIEF 1/2 - Final Logo Edits/ Illustaror Work

Final Logo Edits

After final coming up with final designs for my logo/self branding idea that i had hand drawn the next step was to make the file into a digital vector, this is as in the digital age i will need to have it as  file i can use for example on my blog, pinterest, website, Instagram, or on any work i produce digitally having it will allow me to use it and repeat it the same every time. Also all the research i have done into production of my stamp will need a digital file to send of the companies that will make my stamp or for me to use on the laser cutter. Basically i needed a vectored version of my drawn image for my logo for everyday use.

For this the best way to create a vector that can be scaled up and down without losing quality was illustrator, this is a software am i tried to focus myself to use for studio brief 1 for PPP. one of my aims this year was to improve my ability with this program so using it for this brief will allow me explore the techniques it uses and enhance my skills. I will have to use this in a professional environment so being comfort with the program is vital to my practise as a designer.

i had scanned in my designs so had a file version of them i could then upload to illustrator then there are two ways i could digitalize my file, drawn over it or image trace it.

Image Trace

this made an accurate copy of the image i had drawn but it made the edges no as smooth/slick which will make it pixelate/distort as it changed sizes which will cause my logo to look less professional as it isn't of a high quality.
accurate but blurry, also as its made smaller/bigger the lines distort

Redrawn

drawn paths over the scanned in type
weight experiments, b letter changes, which work best
the redrawn type here is compared to the image trace copy, this was to show the effect of the pixel different and to show how much better quailty the redrawn digital type was compared. The redrawn type can be scaled without effecting the smooth edges of the letter forms or changing the thickness of the letters, this is beneficial as it creates a overall more diverse logo that can easy be apply to any use. The redrawn logo is more suitable for this brief as it fits with logo design theory (being scaled) more as well as will work more practically for me as the over all look is hand drawn but the smoother edges add a professional look which is need to promote my work as a designer, to be seen as more serious.

artist effects
after selecting the best two paths line drawn logos, one of the best effect on illustrator is that you can easily change the weight and brushed uses to create the paths. T have never used this tool before and since i had already created paths i wanted to use for this brief i felt it was good chance to see if any of the brush tools or weights changed could enhance my logo design. This was a good way to learn how illustrator works and play around with the setting which i might want to apply to future work or this brief.

weight changes
effects on the paths
brush changes
effect on the paths

Early int his brief i looked at using watercolour paint typography as a way to create a logo style that reflects my current creative practise, whilst changing the brushes i found that there is a few that are based around water colour paint brushes. This meant i could add this effect to my logo digitally to see how it work with my current logos curves, lines and letter forms. There are the results on my favourite two final logo path tests.

Survey
As this brief needs to reflect me along with my design process/work, i need a logo that reflect me as a person but also as a designer, as i have created all these logos its hard to be objective and pick one that works best to show me. As a solution for this i am going to create a survey to ask my friends, family and current collaboration pairs, i'll ask people who are aware of my work but also aware of me as person which logo they thinks reflect my style the best. Get opinions of me as myself but also as my work to make sure it give an over all reflection of myself that isn't just from my point of view.

experiments i will give people to select which logo they feels fit my design work best

PPP - STUIO BRIEF 1 - Typebook First Images

Typebook

For this project i am completing a book full of daily some type doodles, this it to spark my interest for this manual way of working back as over the year i have become more digital but feel this isn't my style. I want to perfect this skill and feel like completing a small quick doodle everyday will help me, my aim is create a book full by the end of the year that will help me create more work i enjoy whilst giving me a book i can include in my portfoli.

current pages created -

This has helped me with studio brief 2 for this project as i am creating a self branding that reflects myself as a designer, for this i need to use a style that reflect my interest and what work i want to do, this is the work i am interested in outside my degree therefore this needs to be reflect in my style. Its given me new typestyles/idea for how to create a logo in my style for this brief.
